Leather-Loving Shooters Should Flock to the DeSantis Osprey Holster

We all have them, go ahead and admit it. If you carry a firearm, you have a box on a shelf that is full of holsters. Most of them are probably polymer, heat-formed holsters with a gun pocket that rattles around like a box of recycles on trash day.

Don’t get me wrong, I love my plastic fantastic holsters. I prefer them for most classes. Additionally, I appreciate that I can crawl through mud and clean them off with a damp paper towel. But when it comes to every day carry, there is still nothing quite as comfortable as cowhide.

DeSantis has been crafting cowhide for more than 40 years. So, it should come as no surprise that the company went all out on the Osprey combo holster.

The Osprey is an outside-the-waistband holster that easily converts into an inside-the-waistband holster by using the removable belt loops.

Leather for the DeSantis Osprey

DeSantis crafted the body of the Osprey from a single piece of American-sourced saddle leather. Saddle leather is a natural, vegetable-tanned leather that tends to be softer to the touch.

Even better, shooters don’t have to worry about the holster collapsing after drawing, because the opening is reinforced by an additional piece of leather for easy re-holstering. The edges are burnished and rounded, while the contrasting tan stitching is even. And, if it is like other DeSantis holsters I own, it will not fray or unravel with wear.

The IWB/OWB belt loops fit belts up to 1.5 inches wide and the IWB loops can be easily removed with a few tools.

If you are a plastic loyalist and you haven’t worn a leather holster, you owe it to yourself and your gun to try one out. Leather might be thicker than plastic, but it has a way of molding to your body. The lack of hard edges also provides an overall more pleasant carry experience. Let’s be honest, what would make a more comfortable easy chair?

MSRP is $69.99.
