The Devil Dog Concepts Hard Charger (HC) requires no modification to the original AR-15 receiver. One simply breaks down the rifle and removes the original charging handle. Next, the HC receiver mounts to the top of the AR-15 receiver. Then simply attach the modified Devil Dog charging handle to the Hard Charger receiver, and your AR-15 is now a side-charger.

The Hard Charger comes in three different models, the original HC, the HC Rear, and the HC Tactical. The key differences between these models center on what rail position the Hard Charger mounts to, ranging from forward to mid, to rear.

The HC works with standard, forged and flat top versions of the AR-15/M16-type rifle platform. Additionally, it does not work with billet receivers, left eject rifles or .308 AR-type rifles.

Regardless of the model, there should be plenty of available rail space for the mounting of most optics, backup sights or other accessories.

Finally, the HC provides a serious cost break when compared to alternatives to turn your pre-existing AR-15 into a side charger. For example, a JP dual-charging upper receiver retails for around $800. Meanwhile, the Devil Dog Concepts HC sells for around $150.
