DoD Picks Hornady 6.5 Creedmoor Ammunition
The Hornady 6.5 Creedmoor purchase comes as the DoD looks to replace the MK13 bolt-action in .300 Win. Mag. The Hornady 6.5 round underwent testing and selected engagements from 0 to 1,200 yards.
The 6.5 Creedmoor continues its incredible ascent through the shooting world. It delivers less recoil, while providing enhanced accuracy and performance. For this particular military application, the 6.5 Creedmoor also saves on rifle and ammo weight, compared to the MK13 in .300 Win. Mag.
Hornady will load the 6.5 Creedmoor in its factory. The high-performance, match-accurate round features an excellent cartridge-to-chamber relationship and shoots well in all guns, according to Hornady. The 6.5 Creedmoor also features proven Hornady bullets, specially selected cases, carefully matched powder and stringent quality control, according to Hornady.
In December 2018, the Defense Department selected Hornady’s 300 Precision Rifle Cartridge. That selection came via an extended long range sniper program, where 300 PRC outperformed 300 Norma Mag and several other cartridges in testing out past 2,000 yards. The 300 PRC cartridge came after the DOD awarded Barrett a contract for an undisclosed number of MRAD rifle systemsin 300 PRC. Also, as of June 2020, Hornady’s new 6mm ARC is making rounds in the DoD community. Truly impressive stuff from Hornady. For more information, visit hornady.com.
