DPMS’ new TAC2 AR carbine offers several unique—and welcome—features for competition, tactical and recreational shooters. Unlike most carbines, the TAC2 has a rifle-length gas system that places the gas tube’s front approximately 3 inches from the muzzle. By lengthening the gas system and shortening the barrel to 16 inches, the dwell time is much shorter yet sufficient to reliably operate the weapon, and reduces the recoil signature to a much softer push.
The carbine’s free-floated barrel is surrounded by the new DPMS M111 modular handguard system, which has a smooth, comfortable profile with multiple rail-attachment locations. The barrel is topped off with a very distinctive Panther flash suppressor, which significantly reduces muzzle flash to preserve night vision. DPMS has also upgraded the usual mil-spec furniture with a Magpul MOE polymer grip, an ACS stock, an extended triggerguard and the Magpul MBUIS folding rear sight. The distance between the front and rear sights are maximized, providing a longer sight radius—that means better accuracy.
