Building on its popular EP9 pistol platform, Extar USA evolved the model into a pistol-caliber carbine platform. Aside from just throwing a longer barrel on it, the company reformulated the bolt mass and spring rate to compensate for the back pressure of the longer barrel. In addition, the new carbine is compatible with Glock G19 and G17 magazines with up to a 33-round capacity.

Constructed of high-tech, high-quality, engineering-grade polymer, the EP9 Carbine weighs a lightweight 5 pounds. However, Extar took steps to ensure that the lightweight does not increase the felt recoil. Specifically, the company added a separate weight to the top of the bolt. This MASS-DELAYED BLOWBACK system reduces the bolt velocity. As a result, users experience a soft shooting experience without impacting reliability.

Likewise, the company added its Recoil Damper to further reduce recoil impulse. In addition, the brand-new Dynamic Mass Bolt has a spring-loaded weight designed to cancel bolt bounce. For this reason, the EP9 Carbine shoots as softly as the EP9 Pistol and delivers a safer, smoother-running PCC.

The platform features a standard AR-15 grip, stock, safety, and trigger compatibility for full customization and personalization. Likewise, the EP9 Carbine sports an all-new handguard and top rail with full-length Picatinny for attaching optics and other accessories. In addition, the sides and bottom of the handguard feature four M-LOK slots for further customization.

Chambered in 9mm, the EP9 Carbine features a 16-inch BLACKNITRIDE+ barrel with 1/2×28 muzzle thread for running a suppressor. Correspondingly, a left-side reciprocating charging handle readies the carbine to fire. Rounds are delivered downrange via a single-stage curved trigger.

Providing cross-compatibility, the EP9 Carbine accepts Glock G19 and G17 double-stack magazines with up to 33-round capacity. Although it ships with one magazine, 18-round three-packs or 18-round five-packs are available during purchase.
