Federal Premium has introduced a new load in its 224 Valkyrie series: the 90-grain Gold Medal Sierra MatchKing.
Designed for long-range target shooters, this new load produces flat trajectories and the least wind drift and drop in its class, the press release claims. It also offers up match accuracy and supersonic velocities beyond 1,300 yards. Furthermore, it provides less than half the recoil of cartridges with similar ballistics.
“The bullet design has been shot to win more matches than any other, thanks to a uniform jacket that ensures consistent, long-range accuracy, and a sleek boat-tail that maximizes ballistic coefficient,” Federal says of the cartridge, which was created for the MSR 15 platform.
224 Valkyrie
Federal debuted its 224 Valkyrie series in December 2017. Since then, it’s quickly gained in popularity amongst long-range shooters. In addition, many gun makers introducing rifles chambered in the round.
“The 224 Valkyrie is based on a 30 Rem./6.8 SPC case necked down to .224 caliber,” Mike Holm, Federal’s global product lane director for centerfire ammunition, said in a statement. “It beats the ballistics of all other MSR 15 cartridges, including the 22 Nosler, 223 Rem. and 6.5 Grendel. Plus, it offers comparable performance to larger rounds like the 6.5 Creedmoor, with roughly half the felt recoil—and at a more economical price.”
Shipments of the .224 Valkyrie 90-grain Gold Medal Sierra MatchKing are already at dealers. The MSRP is $31.95. In addition, other .224 Valkyrie loads include the 60-grain Nosler Ballistic Tip, 90-grain Fusion MSR and 75-grain American Eagle TMJ.
