Female Homeowner Shoots & Kills Home Invader; 3 Accomplices Charged With Murder

A female homeowner in Alabama shot and killed a home invader, and his three accomplices have been charged with the murder.

According to AL.com, Richard William Taylor, 42, Jeremy Floyd Jones, 29; Audra Lynn Anderson Ikard, 42; and Brandi Michelle Seagroves, 26, went to the unidentified victim’s home, located in the town of Owens Cross Roads, early on Monday last week asking to use her phone. She declined and refused to let them in the house.

The foursome left, but later returned to the home at around 9:30 p.m. and broke in, Sgt. Brian Chaffin of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office said.

Fortunately, the homeowner grabbed her gun and opened fire on the suspects. Taylor was shot multiple times and died from his wounds.

As AL.com notes, Jones, Ikard and Seagroves fled the scene, but the latter two were found the next day by police on Tuesday and questioned. Local police were able to find and arrest Jones that night with the help of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force.

The three suspects have been charged with murder, robbery, burglary and criminal mischief in connection with the case. Alabama has a law on the books that allows a person to be charged with murder if that death occurs while committing a serious crime like burglary, arson, kidnapping and rape. Both Jones and Taylor, the deceased suspect, have a long rap sheet that includes multiple burglary and drug charges.

Chaffin says the suspects were acquainted with the homeowner, but the extent of the relationship is not known at this time, AL.com reported. Police believe the homeowner feared for her life when she shot Taylor.

“At this time, we don’t think any charges will be filed (against her),” Chaffin said.
