FN Adds Manual Safety Option to Reflex Pistol Series

The team at FN made a big splash in 2023 with the release of the Reflex subcompact pistol. The pistol is a slim, one-inch-wide micro compact. It puts 16 rounds at the ready with the included 15-round magazine. With its advanced ergonomics and stippled frame texture, it is an easy-to-shoot subcompact pistol. Now FN adds an external safety to the Reflex Line.

FN Adds External Safety to the Reflex

FN is expanding its popular micro-compact pistol line by adding a manual safety option to both its FN Reflex and Reflex MRD 9mm pistols. This is a highly desirable addition to many people in the firearms world and an indicator that FN is listening to its customer base, showcasing how FN adds external safety to the Reflex Line.

The Reflex falls into the micro gun world but is far from just the average pocket gun. It is obviously small and comes in at 18.4 ounces with a 3.3-inch barrel. Where the Reflex parts ways with many guns in this category is the trigger. While the striker-fired design may dominate the landscape, it has some challenges. The primary downside of a striker system is that the pre-set trigger usually must complete cocking the striker spring. The SAO trigger in the Reflex changes that, promising innovative external safety features.

Hammer Time

When we look at internal hammer guns, we see a trigger benefit. On internal-hammer guns, the hammer is fully cocked by the rearward movement of the slide. The result is a trigger that is typically smoother, crisper, lighter, and single-action-only. There is significantly less creep and a cleaner break, which complements the external safety features FN adds to the Reflex Line.

Coming in at only 18.4 ounces, it is a small gun.

Expanding the Line

“The FN Reflex handgun has been overwhelmingly positive for FN since being introduced in 2023, with customers appreciating the crisp trigger and compact size, which combine to make the pistol very easy to shoot,” said Chris Johnson, Senior Product Manager for Pistols at FN America, LLC. “The addition of the Reflex with manual safety creates more options for buyers. Some prefer concealed-carry pistols with an external safety lever, as it gives them more control of the operation of their pistol, which can lead to more comfort and confidence for some users who notice how FN adds an external safety to the Reflex Line.”

While there are countless options in the subcompact market, the FN Reflex stands apart. If you are looking for an easy-to-carry EDC pistol, the Reflex is worth a long look, especially now that FN adds external safety to the Reflex Line.
