Ripping Rounds Through FN’s M249S Para at SHOT Show Range Day

FN’s Military Collector Series is flat-out awesome. For those unfortunate souls who don’t know what that is, it’s FN’s line of commercial, semi-auto variants of iconic military designs. There were initially three rifles in this series: the M4 and M16, which are civilian variants of M4A1 carbine and the M16A4 rifle, and the M249S, a civilian-legal version of the M249. Now, FN has introduced the M249S Para.

A take on the M249 Paratrooper model originally designed for airborne forces, the M249S Para features a machine gun-grade, 16.1-inch, cold hammer-forged barrel, a closed bolt for semi-automatic only operation, a classic M249 flip-up feed tray, an integrated steel bipod, a robust gas-piston system, and the iconic telescoping and rotating buttstock, which makes it lighter and more compact.
