FN America has a reputation for firearms that perform in hard-use environments for military, law enforcement, and civilians. For this reason, its firearms have spent time on American hips for decades. Similarly, FN Herstal has enjoyed over 100 years of international recognition. Now, FN America expands the micro compact concealed carry market with its new Reflex line. The line boasts a balance between accuracy, deep concealment, and high capacity.
The FN Reflex Micro Compact 9mm Pistol Line
Ideal for concealed carry, the FN Reflex features a 1-inch-wide frame with optimized controls, like an oversized slide lock and low-profile, reversible magazine release. The grip angle of the Reflex offers excellent control and a natural point of aim. As a result, come faster sight acquisition and match grade accuracy.
Similarly, aggressive in-mold stippled texturing in the palm swell helps lock the pistol into the hand. Likewise, vertical scale-like texturing on the front and back straps prevent the pistol from rocking back and forth under recoil. Working with the grip angle, profile, and texturing is the low bore axis, which helps mitigate felt recoil. This results in a micro-compact pistol that is easy to control and promotes faster follow-up shots.
Riding atop the frame is the 6.2-inch slide featuring front and rear cocking serrations for easy racking and press checks. The slide comes equipped with three-dot iron sights with a tritium front night sight. However, the MRD model includes a factory-milled optic cut for the mounting optics with Shield RMSc and Holosun K-Series footprints.
Adding to the match-grade accuracy is the 3.3-inch cold hammer-forged, target-crowned barrel chambered in 9mm. Correspondingly, a polished chamber and ramp help ensure feed reliability. The Reflex line features an internal hammer design which helps reduce slide-racking force for easier slide manipulation.
Rounds are sent downrange via a “best-in-class” single action only trigger, according to the company. The trigger has a consistent take-up to the wall, with a crisp break at approximately 5 pounds. To ensure safety during carry, the Reflex line features redundant safeties within the fire control.
Capacity of the FN Reflex
The FN Reflex ships with two magazines for excellent capacity. The 11-round magazine features a pinky extension for a full grip. However, a flat baseplate is included, so you can swap out the pinky extension for a lower carry profile. Likewise, a 15-round extended magazine features a grip sleeve with the same aggressive in-mold stippled texturing. The grip sleeve extends approximately one inch from the bottom of the frame for a full grip and enhanced recoil control.
“Innovation is at the core of FN’s product development efforts. We aspire to push beyond the status quo to deliver products that provide meaningful improvement over the existing landscape, and we feel we’ve accomplished this with the FN Reflex,” said Mark Cherpes, President and CEO for FN America, LLC. “Our customers now have a firearm they can trust to perform when seconds count, that is backed by a quality promise rooted in our battle-tested heritage.”
