FN American made a big announcement today, one fans of the SCAR have literally waited for since the rifle platform’s inception. Now FN finally just dropped a long-awaited non-reciprocating charging handle (NRCH) for the SCAR semi-auto rifle.

FN SCAR Adds Non-Reciprocating Charging Handle

The NRCH features dual, ambidextrous charging handles, enabling users to shoot from any position or use any grip style. The upgrade improves the handling and manual of arms for the legendary SCAR.

The NRCH makes the SCAR more traditional, in a sense, certainly more intuitive. It increases the ability to shoot from any position, with any grip style or optic, without fear of bumping the charging handle. Combined with fully-ambidextrous operating controls and an adjustable buttstock, the SCAR brings versatility.

Dual, Non-Reciprocating Charging Handles

The assembly consists of a new charging handle sled and two ambidextrous, reversible charging handles. They lock forward on bolt-close and remain static during fire, providing superior forward assist capabilities. The two charging handles, one at a 30-degree cant, specifically designed to reduce interference with low-mount optics, come user-swappable in the field. The reduced reciprocating mass of the new bolt carrier produces less felt recoil, making a soft-shooting rifle even easier, according to FN.
