After four years apart, a former Marine found the canine that kept him safe in Afghanistan for seven months.
Deano Miller and 7-year-old Thor, a yellow Labrador, were reunited Thursday at the Sea-Tac International Airport in Seattle, Wash., with Miller officially adopting his four-legged friend.
According to the Tacoma News Tribune:
His adoption of the dog came together with help from the American Humane Association Mission K9 Rescue, which takes military working dogs that hunted bombs on the battlefield and connects them with good homes in the states.
Miller’s unit was looking for Marines to become dog handlers days before his deployment, so he volunteered. That was where he met Thor.
“He was the only dog who listened to me,” the 25-year-old Miller told the Tacoma News Tribune.
“He was all I had,” he added. “He was the only thing that kept me going every day. He was the only thing that was constant.”
