General Dynamics has been awarded a $15 million contract by the U.S. Navy to continue development of the Common Missile Compartment for the Ohio Replacement Submarine, as well as the UK’s Successor ballistic-missile sub. The work will be completed by GD subsidiary Electric Boat.

As part of the contract, Electric Boat will procure long-lead-time material for the Common Missile Compartment’s integrated missile-tube and hull. In Dec. 2012, General Dynamics Electric Boat was awarded a $1.85 billion contract to begin research and development on the Navy’s next-generation ballistic-missile submarine, which is expected to begin construction in 2021.
