Defense contractor General Dynamics has been awarded a $520 million contract modification by the US Navy to purchase long lead-time material for four Virginia-class submarines: SSN-794, SSN-795, SSN-796 and SSN-797. Work on the contract will be performed by GD subsidiary Electric Boat.
Under the terms of the contract, GD Electric Boat will conduct work on various steam and electrical-plant components of the submarines, as well as the main propulsion uni, ship-service turbine generator sets, and miscellaneous hull, mechanical and electrical-systems components.
The contract, which was initially awarded in April of 2012, now has a total value of $1.2 billion when factoring in the latest modification.
