A 73-year-old woman used her firearm to chase off a would-be burglar from her home in Lilburn, Georgia.

According to a police report obtained by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Hilda Douglas was at her home when the doorbell rang at around 9:45 p.m. on August 3. She looked out the window and saw a suspicious-looking truck parked nearby.

Douglas dialed 911. Just moments later, she heard glass shattering and the pottery in front of her back door breaking, so she went to grab her gun.

As the police report obtained by the AJC states, Douglas stayed in her bedroom but was able to “see light from a flashlight getting closer from under the door. When she heard the doorknob turn, she fired one shot through the door.

“She then heard a scream on the other side of the door and the subject fled downstairs. Douglas went downstairs and saw the subject in the kitchen looking for the back door. She fired several more shots in the general direction of the subject as he ran outside.”

Police arrested Jamie Christoper Lewis after he turned up at an area hospital looking to be treated for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the chest, the AJC said. He has been charged with burglary.
