Glock 17 Classic: Lipsey’s Exclusive Brings Back Pistol That Started It All

Glock Fan Boys, today’s your day. We got some cool, new intel on an incredible exclusive offering from Lipsey’s. The Glock 17 Classic brings back the GEN 1, striker-fired 9mm pistol that changed the gun world forever.

Lipsey’s Glock 17 Classic

The Glock 17, of course, first made landfall in the U.S. back in 1986. It followed the success of Glocks’s Pistole 80, issued to the Austrian military. To go after the American market, Glock established a factory in Georgia to produce the now-iconic Glock 17. Then the company made a full court press to grab every single law enforcement agency in the country, with tremendous success.

Gaston Glock dubbed the pistol the 17, named for his 17th patent. By 1988 changes were made and the next generation of the Glock hit the stores. So now Lipsey’s offers a true GEN 1 Glock 17 Classic as true to the original as possible. Just like 1986, you can “Put The Future In The Palm Of Your Hand,” like the ads of the day claimed.

The Glock 17 Classic as it comes in the box from Lipsey's.

“The Glock 17 Gen 1 Classic is a tribute to the pistol that revolutionized the American handgun market in 1986,” said Jason Cloessner, Lipsey’s Vice President of Product Development. “Now collectors and shooters alike can own a piece of history.”

Editor’s Take:

This Glock 17 Classic represents a really cool deal for Glock fans. Other companies have long re-issued classic versions of its most successful pistols. Glock, traditionally, simply moved on to the next upgrade. But legions of shooters will likely desire to get their hands on a GEN 1 Glock 17. Though it may not comprise a true 1980’s-era Glock, it rocks the looks incredibly well. We’re guessing they will sell these versions as fast as they can make them. After all, this is the gun that started a revolution in pistol-making. Well done!
