Glock has teamed up with the NSSF (National Shooting Sports Foundation) and Project ChildSafe to launch a pledge drive which promotes responsible gun ownership and safety as part of June Safety Month. The company is asking the general public to visit the pledge page and make a pledge through June 30.
“Owning a firearm is a responsibility,” Josh Dorsey, Vice President at Glock, Inc., said in a press release. “Owners need to handle firearms safely and make sure they are secured properly in the home. Glock Confidence embodies knowing how to properly use, maintain, store, and handle your pistol around others. Practicing gun safety is imperative; that is why we’re asking the community to join us in committing to these fundamental practices.”
As the press release notes, Glock will pick random pledgers who have given their testimony on the pledge drive page, and highlight them through their various social media pages. The company says it will commend the pledgers’ commitment to safety and their effort to demonstrate their personal pledge through buying a gun safe, taking family or friends to the range, or talking about gun safety with their children.
Police departments across the country will direct pledgees to the Glock pledge page by distributing free gun locks at their events and holding free seminars on gun safety.
“We applaud efforts like Glock’s Safety Pledge Drive because it helps educate the public on the importance of firearm safety and puts the tools to safely store firearms directly into the community’s hands,” Stephen L. Sanetti, President of the NSSF, said in the press release. “Encouraging gun owners to store firearms responsibly when not in use, and providing free gun locks to help them do that has been at the core of our Project ChildSafe program since it was launched in 1998. Proper storage is the number one way to help prevent firearm accidents and GLOCK’s efforts are a perfect complement to our message of ‘Own It, Respect, Secure It.’”
