Defend or Debunked? Go Guarded Self-Defense Tools for Women on the Go

Running is a healthy form of exercise, a great mental health booster, and even a wonderful outlet for relieving stress. However, if you are not careful, it can be dangerous. Especially for women who, unfortunately, are much more likely to experience physical and sexual assault while running compared to men. In fact, over two-thirds of female runners experience some type of harassment. So, it’s important to take your safety seriously. Here are three self-defense products I recommend from the brand Go Guarded.

Go Guarded Ring

If you’re looking for an easy-to-use defense tool that doesn’t get in the way, I recommend the Go Guarded Ring. This ring is made of heavy-duty nylon and features sharp, serrated edges that can cause nasty damage to an attacker.

The blade is hidden by a colorful silicone cover that flexes out of the way once it impacts your target. You can choose your ring in purple, magenta, green, red, black, or blue.

My favorite feature about this defense tool is that it is crafted with five different silicone size adjusters. They are made to fit inside the bottom of the band to help create a perfect fit.

In addition, this accessory can be worn on any finger. I find that the pointer finger on your dominant hand is the best area to utilize this tool. You can choose between medium and large.

Overall, this ring was easy to slip on and off and stayed secure on my finger. More importantly, it is a defense item I would be happy to wear.

Go Guarded Hand-Held with Pepper Spray

Pepper spray has always been my favorite nonlethal protection tool. It is simple to operate, inexpensive to own, and has powerful side effects that can easily stop any attacker. That said, the Go Guarded Hand-Held With Pepper Spray makes an excellent addition to your morning jog.

This ½ oz canister is designed with a Velcro strap to allow active individuals to comfortably and securely carry this tool in the palm of their hand. Additionally, this small but mighty spray has over a 180,000 Scoville heat rating and a locking mechanism, preventing accidental discharge. To operate, simply twist the top over and press down to release the spray.

Furthermore, this handheld tool is designed with a knife to give individuals an extra dose of protection. A downside of pepper spray is that it might not be enough to fully stop an attacker. Sometimes, extra precautions are necessary.

Once you release the spray, the blade on this device is ready to either slash or stab at an assailant. It also comes with a dual-blade cover that flexes out of the way upon impacting your target.

To hold this tool properly, make sure the knife is facing down and the spray nozzle is facing away from you. Overall, I found this handheld tool easy to use and effective. I will definitely plan on carrying it in the future.

Go Guarded Hand-Held with Stun Device

Stun guns are great for creating mental confusion, impacting an individual’s balance, and causing minor muscle contractions. It is no secret that these tools are powerful, and the Go Guarded Hand-Held with Stun Device is no exception.

Similar to the pepper spray device, this tool is designed with a Velcro strap for a comfortable and secure grip. To activate, simply press the black power button on the left-hand side while making contact with the touch safety sensor on the right-hand side.

Once you touch these two key areas, an electrical current will spark across the top of this tool. Then, make contact with your attacker’s body and let them ride the lightning. For best results, it is recommended you hold a shock for up to five seconds.

My personal favorite feature about this handheld tool is that the electrifying noise alone is loud and scary enough to act as a deterrent. The stun gun is also designed with a flashlight that operates by simply touching the touch safety sensor.

Moreover, the Go Guarded Hand-Held with Stun Device comes with a USB cable to charge it. It produces four solid lights to indicate a full charge.

Similar to the Go Guarded Hand-Held with Pepper Spray, this device features a heavy-duty reinforced nylon, serrated defense knife. It also has the same rubber cover that flexes out of the way upon impact with a target.

A Quick Side Note

It’s extremely important to note that every state has different rules and regulations regarding the ownership of certain self-defense tools. Before you purchase a stun gun, pepper spray, or defense knife, I highly recommend and encourage that you educate yourself on your state’s local laws pertaining to each of these protection tools.

Closing Remarks

In a life-or-death situation, every second counts. Frantically searching for your self-defense tool wastes precious time and will only hurt you in the long run. This means that it is important that your self-defense devices are easily accessible. Likewise, they should be easy to use and pack a mighty punch to help you get away and to a safe location.

Each of the three products I mentioned went above and beyond to make my safety a number one priority. I am confident they can do the same for you. While these tools are marketed towards runners, they are still perfect for running errands, walking alone in a parking lot late at night, or having a night out on the town.

Ultimately, each tool was useful, inexpensive, and helped boost my confidence. Based on those three factors alone, I cannot recommend these tools enough.
