Poll Finds Americans Feel More Gun Control Won’t Stop Mass Shootings

As violent crime surges and mass shootings are on the rise, Democrats predictably set their sights on gun control. However, when you look at the statistics, the increase in crime and shootings take place in Democrat-run cities. And they all have one thing in common—strict gun control laws. So, it is no surprise that Americans agree that gun control won’t do anything to stop mass shootings.

A Recent Poll Finds That Americans Agree That Gun Control Won’t Stop Mass Shootings

Following the recent subway shooting in Brooklyn, Rasmussen conducted a poll with fairly predictable results. Of those U.S. voters polled 51 percent don’t think that stricter gun control would do anything to stop mass shootings.

Also not surprising is the fact that the results were divided down party lines. For example, 65 percent of Democrat voters think we need stricter gun control, while only 23 percent of Republicans concur. Likewise, 61 percent of Democrats believe that stricter gun control would prevent shootings like the one in Brooklyn.

Even as Democrat cities devolve into violent hellscapes, Democrats hold firm that their gun control policies work. As a result, they push more policies and things get worse.

To illustrate, New York is number 3 in the nation for “gun law strength,” according to Everytown for Gun Safety. Not to mention, California is ranked number 1 and recently experienced a shootout in Sacramento that killed six and wounded numerous others. I don’t even have to mention the statistics in Chicago, they make headlines every Monday. Illinois ranks number 6 in the country for “gun law strength.”

According to Breitbart News, “If the numbers are broken down along race, more black voters than white voters support stricter gun control and 54 percent of black voters think stricter gun control could prevent attacks like the subway attack in Brooklyn.”

However, it’s worth noting that New York already has many of the gun control measures that President Biden keeps trotting out. It has an “assault weapons” ban, “high capacity” magazine ban, universal background checks, a red flag law, etc. And none of it is helping keep New York citizens safe.

Time for a New Direction

As many gun rights advocates regularly point out, it’s not the weapon, it’s the man. We do not have a gun problem in this country, we have a morality problem, and that can be hard to overcome.

According to the poll, “Majorities of every political category – 67% of Republicans, 52% of Democrats and 59% of unaffiliated voters – say it’s not possible to completely prevent mass shootings.”

With this said, it is time to look at other avenues of prevention and deterrent. As the old saying goes, “An armed society is a polite society.”

CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb says, “It is significant that Rasmussen pollsters also learned that 59 percent think it’s not possible to prevent the kinds of shooting incidents like what happened in Brooklyn. This is why we have always supported expanded concealed carry by law-abiding private citizens. If history has taught us anything, it’s that violent crime does not happen on a prearranged schedule, and criminals or madmen do not call ahead to warn their victims.”

Instead of disarming law-abiding citizens, we need to give them the means to protect themselves against those determined to commit mayhem. Only then will criminals begin to think twice about randomly attacking innocent civilians. Because they would have no idea which civilian(s) might end their reign of terror before it starts.
