Formula J Concentrated Brass Cleaner is specifically designed to work with rotary tumblers using stainless steel pins. It is important to add chemicals that will properly alter the surface tension and hardness of water so that the stainless media works to its greatest potential, when tumbling brass and other metals. Just adding water and stainless pins won’t get your brass very clean.

Many handloaders use their own homemade versions of cleaning formulas and they usually work pretty good. But store bought detergents and softeners have other chemicals that are not needed, cause excessive foaming, and can potentially leave unwanted deposits on your brass. In addition, most homemade versions aren’t consistent since people tend to add “a sprinkle of this” and “a squirt of that”, which ends up as money down the drain.

Each bottle contains 16 ounces of concentrated cleaning formula, good for about 23 gallons of cleaning solution. Add 1 teaspoon (5 ml) for every quart (32 oz, 946.4 ml) of water [approximately 190:1 concentration].
