Chambered in .40 S&W, the HK P30L offers a longer than usual slide as well as a longer Picatinny rail, allowing for better control and easier addition of enhancements, such as the SureFire X400 shown here.
Heckler & Koch’s outstanding P30L pistol, which had been previously available only in 9mm, is now offered in .40 S&W—and with good reason. The two most popular cartridges for law enforcement are the 9mm and the .40 S&W, with these two calibers seeing an enthusiastic following among civilian shooters as well.
Gun Details
The P30L (the L stands for Long) is a polymer-framed semi-automatic recoil-operated pistol with a 15+1 magazine capacity in 9mm and 13+1 in .40 S&W available in either double-action-only, or standard double-action/single-action.
The push-button decocker next to the rubberized hammer may seem oddly placed to some, but it actually works quite well.
HK calls their double-action-only design a Law Enforcement Modification, which operates like a striker-fired gun in the sense that the action is partially pre-cocked on closing but retains its hammer-fired mechanism so a second strike capability is possible. Meanwhile, the more traditional DA/SA method of firing adds some of its own unique elements.
Multiple side and backstrap panels allow for a custom fit with 27 different combinations.
