We finally got the some real information on one of the biggest surprises to come out of SHOT Show 2023, the new Henry Homesteader. The new semi-automatic, 9mm carbine breaks some seriously new ground for Henry. Better still, the convertible design enables shooters to pick running a provided Henry 5- or 10-round magazine, or a popular Glock, SIG Sauer or S&W M&P-style mag.
Henry Homesteader Details
As the name should imply, the Homesteader targets land owners, ranchers or even those seeking a solid home defense gun. But the semi-auto 9mm should fill about any roll where a PCC sees use. With the ability to swap to the magazine system of your preference, and magazines pushing over 30 rounds, it should provide a heckuva day on the range as well.
The Homesteader also comes with a threaded barrel for suppressor use. Suppressors continue increasing in popularity and would be extremely welcome on this platform. Threading the muzzle also enables easy use of desired muzzle breaks or compensators as well.
The Homesteader also features controls centrally located to work for both right- and left-handed shooters. The compact platform sports a short overall length, making it suitable in a CQB role or home defense. It also sports a relatively light weight, making it a solid choice to take on the go.
The Homesteader comes with fully adjustable sights. Inside, the platform includes a reciprocating mass inside the forearm. The weight counteracts recoil to limit muzzle rise and create faster follow-up shots.
A non-slip, leather-like texturing on the American walnut furniture helps improve purchase. Blued steel, sealed wood and hard anodizing on the aluminum receiver round out this impressive 9mm package.
The Homesteader brings a retail of $928 with a Henry magazine well. Other (Glock, SIG, S&W) version retail for $959 with the additional magazine well. For even more info, please visit henryusa.com.

Editor’s Take
Wow, here’s one we didn’t see coming this year. At first glance, and we’ve only had a glance, the Homesteader appears well executed. And it should be if it’s going to challenge the Ruger PC Carbine and other similar 9mm long guns in this field. We love that Henry, much like Ruger, went with magazine interchangeability in its design. Bravo. Because nearly everyone that wants this gun, if they already run Glock, SIG or S&W, will obviously make that switch. Drilled and tapped, fully adjustable mags and a threaded barrel deliver all the hits. There’s a cut down the left side of the receiver that appears to offer running the bolt handle on the left side. Oh, please let this be true. We’ll find out soon.
