Few companies have an elite reputation for engineering excellence like Heckler and Koch. The guns that leave their doors are some of the best in the world, and they continue to push the envelope. Besides engineering, they are also plugged into application and usability. With this in mind, they have created a new weapon centered on inexpensive training. The H&K G36 22 in .22LR

With a Focus on Inexpensive Training – H&K Now Offer the H&K G36 22
Since its adoption by the German Bundeswehr in 1997, the iconic G36 has set the standard that modern rifles continue to emulate. From its folding stock to modular furniture, a short-throw selector, and trail-blazing use of polymer, the combat-proven G36 continues to serve today, protecting freedom across NATO.
HK has again partnered with Umarex of Germany to offer this realistic rimfire version of the iconic G36 rifle. Many of the components, including the handguard, sight rail, and stock, are compatible with the original G36. With the same legendary look and feel of the original, the G36 .22 offers a high-quality and reliable rimfire rifle for fun, competition, plinking, or as a sub-caliber trainer.

Almost Identical to the Standard G36
The HK G36 22 is a faithful replica of the standard G36. It features a polymer frame and integrated carry handle with optic rail. It also has the unmistakable folding skeletonized stock. Despite being a rimfire, the rifle retains a similar size and balance to the 5.56 version, making it excellent for training or just plinking
With its polymer construction, the gun weighs only 5.5 pounds, making it easy for anyone to run. The rifle operates via a simple blowback system, and includes an ambidextrous safety, adjustable rear, and hooded front sight. It has a 20-round magazine with a load assist point on the mag.

On the range, the gun is ridiculously fun to shoot. I have extensive time on the 5.56 version in both semi-auto and select fire. I was impressed at how close the 22 version is to the original model. Recoil is almost non-existent, and it ran flawlessly through over 300 rounds. Accuracy wise It shot well. I could consistently ring a four-inch piece of steel at 50 yards. Of course, no range session with a .22 would be complete without shooting some cans; in that capacity, it was a winner. Several people on neighboring bays requested a chance to give it a spin, and they all smiled in the end.
On a more serious note, this .22LR version makes for an excellent trainer. It has the same manual of arms as the 5.56 version but allows you to shoot much less expensive ammo. The HK G36 22 is not just a gimmick gun. While it is obviously enjoyable to shoot, it has a serious application.
