Heckler & Koch Defense just announced it delivered its first shipment of the M110A1 Squad Designated Marksman Rife (SDMR) to the U.S. Army. The shipment marked the first delivery of an eventual 5,000 to 6,000 complete weapon systems from HK.

HK’s Oberndorf, Germany facility, under the terms of the agreement, manufactured the variant of the company’s 7.62mm G28/HK 417. It then ships to HK-USA in Columbus, Ga. There, HK installs scopes and mounts purchased by the Army under a separate agreement. Additionally, HK kits the scoped rifles with additional accessories from 12 other U.S. manufacturers. HK also provides spare parts, support and training.

The SDMR system adds much-needed capabilities at the squad level for U.S. Army soldiers. Therefore, the program serves a s a top priority for HK.
