Hogue is no stranger to the firearms industry, but it also applies its leading manufacturing practices to excellent EDC cutlery. For years Hogue has produced a knife line for firearms manufacturers like SIG Sauer and Heckler & Koch. However, Hogue Knives also delivers that same quality in its own popular line, with knives like the Deka EDC folder.
The Hogue Knives Deka EDC Folder
The new Deka is a result of customer feedback on the original. As a result, comes a much lighter option, with less hardware and a smaller internal frame. Encasing the small internal frame are G-10 handle scales, available in solid black or a variety of Hogue’s G-Mascus. G-Mascus is a multi-color option that presents as camouflage—or G-10 Damascus, as it were. The G-Mascus options are available in Blue Lava, Dark Earth and Green.
The 3.25-inch blade of the Deka is also available in either clip point or modified Wharncliffe. Both blades additionally feature a flat saber grind, with the clip point adding a top swedge. However, the Wharncliffe has what many refer to as a “nightmare” grind, which presents as two separate grinds coming together. Correspondingly, the rear of the blade has more meat behind the edge for harder use, while the forward section has a keener edge for slicing/slashing.
The CPM 20CV stainless-steel blade is a thin 0.094 inch thick and comes in your choice of stone tumbled or black Cerakote finish. This not only reduces weight, but helps with a very sharp edge, out of the box. The blade is brought to its full 7.5 inches via manual thumb stud operation. While open, the blade is held in place with Hogue’s ABLE Lock mechanism. The lock includes an ambidextrous lock bar coupled with Wolf wireform springs to ensure secure lockup.
At an incredibly light 2.3 ounces and closed length of 4.25 inches, the Deka presents little footprint in the pocket. In addition, the re-engineered, deep carry pocket clip carries the knife deep and out of sight until needed. The Deka comes configured for tip-up right-hand carry but is replaceable for left-hand tip-up carry as well.
