While many of us wanted to see Tom Selleck return to the weekly series as his police chief character from the Stone Cold movies, he has a hit on his hands with CBS’ Blue Bloods. He plays the patriarch of an NYPD family that hits the streets of the Big Apple every week with GLOCK 19s in their holsters.
This past year also brought the last season of Breaking Bad, the story of Walter White, a terminally ill high school science teacher (played by Bryan “Godzilla” Cranston) who becomes a meth kingpin in order to secure a financial future for his family. While Walter usually dispatches his enemies with a cool chemical explosion, DEA Agent Hank Schrader takes on the bad guys with his .40-caliber GLOCK 22, finally catching on to the fact that the drug dealer running things in his jurisdiction is his own brother-in-law!
One of the best TV shows for GLOCK fans was TNT’s The Closer, which featured Kyra Sedgwick and her GLOCK 26.
The Closer spun off into the show Major Crimes starring Mary McDonnell as Captain Raydor, who has her own compact G26 as her sidearm. The rest of her squad, including G.W. Bailey from The Closer and the great Police Academy movies, carries the full-sized G17.
Defiance takes place on a future earth where invading aliens have literally changed the face of the planet. One town fights back using G17 and G26 pistols against the aliens.
Another sci-fi TV show is Continuum, where Detective Kiera Cameron (played by Rachel Nichols) from the year 2077 finds herself trapped in present-day Vancouver having to track down ruthless criminals from the future. Without her weapons of the future, she has to rely on the G17 and subcompact G26 to bring these future miscreants to justice.
In Banshee, a corrupt town of the same name can only be saved by an even more corrupt sheriff who used to be a master thief. Lucas Hood (played by Antony Starr) gets out of prison and assumes the identity of a murdered lawman, taking over a police force armed with G17s.
British secret agents use G17s in TV’s Strike Back.
The G19 makes regular appearances as Glenn’s pistol on the zombie apocalypse hit The Walking Dead and its video game incarnations.
Twenty-nine years: It’s been a long haul since 1986, when the first GLOCK semi-automatic pistol made an appearance in American media in the hands of Don Johnson’s character Sonny Crockett on the original Miami Vice TV series. Now the Glock pistols deserve Screen Actor’s Guild residuals as one of the most dependable guest stars on motion picture and television screens.
On the big and small screens, the GLOCK autopistol, in all its variations and calibers, shines as the gun of our generation’s movie and television heroes.
