A would-be burglar is dead after being shot a homeowner in southwest Houston early Tuesday morning.
According to the Houston Chronicle, the incident took place at a home in the 8500 block of Maplecrest Drive near Elmsworth Drive at around 1:30 a.m. The homeowner told police he was asleep when he was suddenly awoken by the sound of glass breaking.
The man grabbed his gun and went to investigate the source of the noise. That’s when he saw the suspect breaking into his home through the front door. A confrontation ensued and the homeowner fired at the suspect multiple times, wounding him.
The unidentified burglar fled after being shot and collapsed just outside the home. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
As the Chronicle reports, the homeowner — who was new to the neighborhood — was uninjured and is not likely to face charges as a result of the shooting.
