Hydra BMP-23: The Legendary Bushmaster Arm Pistol Reborn!

Hydra Weaponry continues making a name for itself by reimagining gun designs of the past that still carry some serious cool factor, built with modern manufacturing materials and methods. The Hydra BMP-23 reinvents the Gwinn Firearms-designed Bushmaster Arm Pistol of the early 1970s, complete with its unique 40-degree swivel design.

Hydra BMP-23: Modernized Evolution of the Bushmaster Arm Pistol

The BMP-23 comprises a lightweight aluminum and steel design, weighing 5.2 pounds with built-in iron sights. It sports an 11.5-inch chrome-moly barrel and an AK-47-type gas piston operating system. Originally conceived by firearms innovator Mack Gwinn, Jr., the new BMP-23 comes chambered in 5.56 and retains many of the innovative design elements of the predecessor. The swivel design sets up for either right- or left-hand operation.

“The BMP-23 is exactly what my father would have built if he had access to today’s materials and machining capabilities,” said Mack Gwinn III, President of Hydra Weaponry. “We’ve taken his groundbreaking design and brought it into the modern era while staying true to his vision of a compact, powerful, and versatile firearm.”

The New Hydra BMP-23 reimagines the Bushmaster Arm Pistol.

The original Bushmaster Arm Pistol was developed as a compact survival weapon for aircrews and Special Forces, borrowing key elements from both AR-15 and AK-47 designs. Now, decades later, the BMP-23 honors that legacy while providing modern reliability and ergonomic improvements.
