We’ve been hearing about the Identilock for a few years, but now it looks like it’s finally being made available for purchase.
Made by a Detroit-based startup called Sentinl, Inc., the Identilock is essentially a next-gen biometric trigger lock. The device attaches to a firearm’s triggerguard and opens in 300 milliseconds—the equivalent of the blink of an eye—with the touch of your finger. It stores up to three users—determined by Identilock’s primary owner who can also add or delete profiles as he/she sees fit—and is compatible with any USB Type-C charging outlet. The charging time is four hours. On standby mode, it can last for up to six months, or 180 days, on a single charge.
Identilock also features a mechanical override system via the unique key provided with each model. The device is about the same size as a wallet and weighs just half a pound.
The press release describes Sentinl founder Omer Kiyani as a parent and gun owner looking to find a true balance between gun safety and gun ownership.
“I’ve watched the media, politicians and others, weigh in on our gun rights. I value and support our individual freedoms like the 2nd Amendment,” said Kiyani. “I’ve wanted to find a balance between gun ownership and safety. The Identilock is designed to assure firearm owners that a gun will not fire if handled in the wrong hands … as long as the lock is on the gun.”
