Ukraine Presents an Example of the Importance of an Armed Populace

It is clear that the ruling elites in our country are desperate for us to forget our history. They would like us to believe that the Second Amendment was about hunting. However, the very founding of our country demonstrates the fallacy of that argument. We became a country using firearms to fight a tyrannical government. The Second Amendment is about defending ourselves from enemies foreign and domestic. And the events in Ukraine only bolster the importance of an armed populace.

Ukraine Demonstrates the Importance of Maintaining an Armed Populace

As many of us remember, the war in Ukraine caught its citizens a bit off guard. As a result, emergency measures from President Zelensky lifted firearm restrictions for citizens. In addition, the Ukrainian government started handing out firearms and providing training to any willing to fight for the country. Unfortunately, they learned too late about the importance of an armed populace.

Here in America many watched and shook our heads at how needlessly that all was. If Ukraine didn’t have strict restrictions to begin with, its citizens would have already been armed. Would things have been different in that case? There is no way to truly know. Any answer I could give would be pure speculation. However, in my opinion, I think it would have made Putin think twice about any kind of ground invasion.

Following Russian attacks on a maternity hospital and innocent women and children in recent weeks, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA) called for the need for an armed populace.

CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb said on the CCRKBA website, “Several news agencies are reporting these barbaric attacks, which should erase any doubt about the intent of the Russian invaders, and the need for every [able-bodied] citizen to have the tools to fight back. This is not a game of hypotheticals. Innocent women and children are being targeted.”

Not only does he remind us of our need to remain armed but also issues a message to European nations.

“An armed and trained population can defend their homes and their homeland,” Gottlieb observed. “Right now, other countries should be promoting private gun ownership rather than preventing their citizens from having firearms and being well-trained in their use.”

Timing is Everything

Although the CCRKBA message is two weeks old it is becoming more and more relevant every day. The message held an almost ominous forbearing, whether intentional or not:

“We’ve read and heard criticisms from the gun prohibition crowd about stressing the importance of our Second Amendment to the security of a free state,” he added, “but those critics are speaking from the comfort of a currently safe nation.”

We may currently be a safe nation, but how much longer will that last with the current administration?

In a recent NBC News report, “The Biden administration is preparing to lift Title 42, the public health authority the U.S. has used since the spring of 2020 to stop the spread of Covid by preventing immigrants from crossing the U.S.-Mexico border to claim asylum, say two officials familiar with the planning.”

According to the report, U.S. officials, state governors, and local officials warn of a potential surge of more than 170,000 migrants. Likewise, a senior Department of Homeland Security official says there is a concern in the agency that it will incentivize more would-be immigrants to leave their homes for the U.S.

Unfortunately, there is no way of knowing where all of these immigrants are coming from.

A Washington Examiner story states, “In 2021, more than 4,100 Russians were encountered compared to fewer than 500 the previous year. Apprehensions have spiked further in October, with more than 1,500 Russian citizens apprehended.”

They also say, “While the Border Patrol historically has encountered small numbers of people from more than 100 nations every year, the number from some of those countries are rising significantly, as are the numbers of countries. Border Patrol agents in Del Rio, Texas, announced this week arrests of people from around the world, including Eritrea, Uzbekistan, Syria, and Lebanon.”

Who Has Our Backs?

As our southern border is under invasion and land war rages in Europe, the Biden administration cuts our defense budget.

According to the Military Times, “Amid a major land war in Europe, the Biden administration’s fiscal 2023 budget request would temporarily shrink the active duty Army to 473,000 troops if enacted by Congress.”

They continue, “That could leave the service at its smallest size since 1940, when it had just over 269,000 troops. Other historical lows include an authorized 476,000 in fiscal 2017 and nearly 478,000 in fiscal 1999 at the nadir of the post-Cold War drawdown.”

Although some are blaming budget cuts and inflation, there are other factors at work. Specifically, COVID vaccine rules and woke policies.

In a recent story on Breitbart, “The recruiting difficulties come as the Army has begun discharging soldiers not complying with the Biden administration’s coronavirus vaccine mandate. More than 4,000 requested a religious exemption, but only two were granted, according to recent Army statistics. An additional 2,735 soldiers have refused.

“The difficulties are also despite the Army last year launching animated recruitment advertisements that highlighted women, minorities, immigrants, and the LGBT community, as previously reported by Breitbart News.”

The Second Amendment to Save the Day

Every day it becomes more evident that we are living in the times the Second Amendment was written for. As our government caves to the woke mob, the wolves salivate at our door. Somehow the same people who believe terrorists just need hugs are now controlling our national security. That is never a good thing.

Now more than ever, it is imperative that we hold on to our Second Amendment rights. Even anti-gun Democrats are starting to realize that we are awake to what’s happening, causing them to back down. However, it is most likely that this is nothing more than political theater leading up to the midterms. We cannot allow the gun grabbers to stay in power. They are backing down now, but they will ramp it up even harder if they stay in office.

According to Gottlieb, “There is never a wrong time to encourage private gun ownership, especially as a prelude and preventive measure to tyranny. Likewise, it is never too early to prepare for the worst while hoping for the best. The moment Russian troops crossed the border into Ukraine and started shooting, the game changed in Europe.”

We cannot afford to learn the hard way, like Ukraine, about the real importance of an armed populace. We are the last great bastion of freedom on Earth. There is a reason everyone wants to come here. As the United States falls, so does all hope of freedom and democracy across the globe.
