Kimber Maximizes the Benefits of .38 Super with Its Stainless II High Polish

There was a time when .38 Super was “THE” round used by competitors and serious shooters around the world. It came to be in the late 1920’s and has real performance credentials. With 500-foot pounds of muzzle energy and muzzle velocity beyond 1,300 feet per second with an FMJ bullet, .38 Super easily works in the personal defense world. It also produces recoil that is comparable to a 9mm, making it a perfect round for shooting on the range or carrying concealed. As time slipped by, the .38 Super started to be seen less and less, and it is now a bit of a history piece. The folks at Kimber, however, remember the .38 Super quite well and decided it was time to build a gun worthy of its performance. Say hello to the Kimber Stainless II High Polish chambered in .38 Super.

Kimber Stainless II High Polish

The Stainless II High Polish catches your eye right out of the box with its almost mirror finish. Beyond the bling, the gun is built around performance. It includes a Kimber custom for three-slot triggers. Before any break-in, the trigger breaks at a crisp four-to-five-pound pull and has a short, clean reset.

The grips are an equally eye-catching pair of G10 bonded smooth ivory. They complement the pistol very nicely. This gun uses the Kimber easy-to-acquire three-dot sight set in the dovetail. While some may want to install their own sights, I found these to be a good match to the gun.

The gun is more than a looker and performs well on the range. Coming in at 2.3 pounds, it has enough heft to soak up the .38 Super recoil without being a boat anchor. The meticulous fitting of the trigger is a plus in the gun and allows for tight groups and consistent shots.

The Kimber Stainless II is a gun that may cause some conflict in your mind. First, it is beautiful, and its high gloss finish will have you packing a cleaning cloth to the range. You may hesitate to really take this pistol for a hard drive, but I can assure you it wants it. The gun shoots as nice as it looks, and relegating it to a safe queen status would be a disservice to the effort Kimber put into this gun.

If you are looking for a gun that is a mix of beautiful and performance, you should spend a few minutes looking at the new Kimber Stainless II High Polish chambered in .38 Super. You won’t be disappointed.
