The Laugo Arms Alien Creator Evolution is Other Worldly

The Laugo Arms Alien Creator Evolution pistol is by far the most unique and innovative pistol I’ve seen in years. There is nothing “common” or “universal” about this pistol. After shooting it at SHOT Show, I knew I wanted to get my hands on it for a full review. For this review, Laugo Arms sent me the Full Kit of the Alien Creator Evolution. It includes both rails set up with iron sights and the Laugo red dot sight.

Laugo Arms Alien Creator Evolution Gas-Delayed Blowback Action

If you think you know semi-automatic pistols, this gun might give you a little bit of a pause when you first shoot it. The Alien Creator Evolution pistol has a fixed barrel and non-locking slide and functions with a gas-delayed blowback action. The benefit is that the cycle time is minimized, allowing you to shoot follow-up shots faster.

Most semi-automatic pistol barrels tilt downward as the slide moves, so the barrel must have space to do this. The Alien Creator pistol barrel stays in place entirely and requires no extra “spacing” for it.

The gas piston internally controls the flow of gases and works with the recoil spring to function the slide. So, while the slide reciprocates, the barrel and top rail stay in place.

Lowest Bore Axis in the World

The Alien Creator Evolution pistol has the lowest bore axis in the world. When you look at the muzzle end of the gun, you see how low the barrel is set on this pistol. As a result, when you grip the gun, the bore is in line with the top of your hand.

Other semi-automatic handguns do not feature a low bore axis, so the barrel is above your grip on the gun. If you shoot the Alien Creator pistol side by side with firearms featuring a higher bore axis, you will notice how differently the two guns recoil.

The Alien Creator Evolution recoils rearward into the web of your hand. However, high-bore axis pistols recoil upward with what we call “muzzle rise.” The low bore axis gives the Alien Creator Evolution pistol the advantage of being a flatter shooting pistol by design.

Interchangeable Rail and Repeatable Zeros

The full kit from Laugo Arms includes two Alien Creator Evolution pistol rails. One rail is set up with a front fiber optic front sight and a blacked-out rear sight. The optic top rail is set up with the Laugo red dot sight.

This optic has a 6 MOA reticle with adjustable brightness and locking zero, designed with the C-MORE RTS footprint. If you’ve ever had to remove a red dot optic from a firearm to replace the battery, swap pistol slides to change from irons to a red dot, or remove a dust cover with the optic mounted to it to disassemble a gun, you might have had to re-zero your optic.

With the Laugo Arms Alien Creator Evolution pistol, there is no need to re-zero. With the locking zero, you get a repeatable zero when changing the rail from irons to optics or vice versa.

Alien Creator Evolution Fixed Sights

What’s so neat about this pistol’s design is that the sights are fixed in one place as the gun cycles. The rail stays locked in while the slide moves rearward to allow the brass to eject and then forward to chamber a new round. It’s much easier to track your red dot optic or re-align your iron sights with this pistol than semi-automatic handguns with sights mounted to the reciprocating slide.

The other benefit of the rail supporting the optic is that none of the optic weight is on the slide. When you mount a red dot optic directly to the slide of a handgun, you add weight to the reciprocating slide, which must move rearward and forward with every shot fired.

Many shooters who mount large red dot optics have experienced malfunctions because the slide has too much additional mass to operate correctly. Typically, to mitigate this issue, you can lighten the recoil spring. With the Alien Creator Evolution pistol, this issue is solved for you.

A Hammer Fired Pistol?

That’s right! The Laugo Arms Alien Creator Evolution is a single-action, hammer-fired pistol rather than a striker-fired pistol. The hammer is not exposed but is instead located underneath the rails of the gun.

If you’re familiar with hammer-fired firearms, this one is simply upside down compared to what you’re used to seeing.

The trigger comes tuned to 3.5 pounds but can be adjusted slightly by a reputable gunsmith. There is a built-in trigger shoe safety comparable to other semi-automatic handguns. So, it will not move rearward without your finger wholly on the trigger.

Performance

I have been shooting and reviewing pistols for over a decade, and this pistol’s accuracy outshot them all. I used ammunition from Federal, Super Vel, Fiocchi, and Blazer to see how the gun would perform with different bullet grain weight 9mm ammunition. All groups were under an inch.

High-quality ammunition is essential for a firearm to perform at its best. However, good ammunition can only shoot as well as the gun itself. The Alien Creator Evolution Pistol is insanely accurate. Correspondingly, even with the different velocities, the recoil felt the same with each kind of ammo.

PSA for All the Competitive Shooters

Laugo Arms makes various designs of the Alien pistol. It’s essential to understand what division the gun would be legal to shoot in specific shooting sports.

The Limited Optics Kit is the pistol you can legally use to compete in the Limited Optics division. Specifically because the optic mount is attached to the reciprocating slide. However, the full kit option with the fixed red dot optic wouldn’t be legal since the optic is not slide-mounted.

The Alien Retro was specifically designed to comply with the rules of the IPSC Production Optics division and other competitive classes that require the optic to reciprocate with the slide.

Also, remember to always chronograph the ammunition you plan to compete with through whichever Alien pistol model you use if your sport has a minimum power factor. The Federal Gold Medal 147 grain FMJ ammunition is some of my favorite ammo explicitly made for competitive shooters. However, it will not meet the minimum power factor through this gun.

WOW!

This gun is truly a work of art on the outside and a well-built machine on the inside. The 1911 grip angle is comfortable, and the grip’s texturing ensures your hands won’t slip in wet or humid environments. The modular grip design makes modifying your gun to your preferences easy.

The hard case is filled with everything you need to compete. So, you can go straight from your FFL to the shooting range. The Elornis Holster and adjustable mounting system blew me away with the quality of the design. Manufacturers who have started to ship guns with holsters have listened to what the end consumer wants and needs.

I’m obsessed with the interchangeable rail system, the low bore axis with the better-felt recoil, and how accurately it shoots. Laugo Arms knocked this one out of the park.
