A restaurant in Louisiana is offering a 10 percent discount for customers carrying a legal firearm.
Kevin Cox, owner of Bergeron’s Restaurant in Port Allen, told NBC33 he initially got the idea for the discount as a way to thank law enforcement officers frequenting his restaurant, but regular gun-carrying customers soon wanted the discount as well.
“I keep hearing so much about people banning guns. Target’s banning guns, and these people are banning guns,” Cox said. “Don’t they realize that that’s where people with guns are going to go? I want to take the opposite approach. How can I make my place safer?”
As NBC33 reports, the discount has been a hit with customers. Cox said he gives out 15 to 20 discounts per day. One customer, Olivia Carambat, stopped by for lunch while carrying her Smith & Wesson 38.
“There’s so many people who are trying to take our guns away and the government makes stricter gun laws,” Carambat said. “They forget that we really do, we’re given the right in the Constitution to keep and bear arms.”
In addition to being a great promotional tool, the discount guarantees the restaurant will be well-defended.
“If somebody walked in here with a gun and wanted to hurt us, we’re not defenseless,” says Carambat.
Cox told NBC33 you must have your gun with you inside the restaurant to get the discount.
