The modern warrior culture often channels Viking cultural traditions—and for good reason. With an ardent devotion to battle and weaponry, the Vikings were fierce warriors who were feared by many. So much so that their legend still lives on as one of the most prolific warrior societies in history. For this reason, Magnum Research channels this visage in its latest Desert Eagle model, the Viking L5.
The Magnum Research Viking L5 Desert Eagle
The third in a series of Viking-inspired Desert Eagles, the L5 is inspired by Norse long swords taken from archeological digs. As a result, the Viking L5 features a weathered finish that is hand distressed to resemble the ancient blades.
According to the company, each pistol contains hand-created content, and no two will look exactly alike. Ensuring durability, each L5 contains a clear coat finish to preserve the mythic imagery of the Norse culture.
Chambered in .50 AE, the Viking L5 has a 5-inch barrel with an integral muzzle brake to help mitigate felt recoil. The top of the exposed barrel hosts the front sight, which couples with the combat rear sight. However, the barrel also features an integral seven slot Picatinny rail for the addition of a rail mounted optic.
The Lightweight L5 comes in at 3 pounds 6 ounces and includes a Hogue finger-grooved rubber grip. An oversized beavertail all but eliminates the possibility of slide bite. Additionally, the ambidextrous safety provides both right- and left-handed operation. However, the slide stop and mag release are set up for right-handed use only.
Like all lightweight Desert Eagle L5 models, the Viking is New York State compliant. Likewise, each pistol ships with a single 7-round magazine.
