Magpul Industries is introducing their M-LOK modular locking accessory mounting system, brand new for 2014. According to the product information, this system utilizes a direct attachment method for hard mounting accessories to a negative space mounting point. It is designed as an evolution of the MOE slot system which has been used since 2007. Magpul Industries is releasing this brand new product as a free licensed platform.
The Magpul M-LOK, or Modular Lock system, is similar to MOE in that it has an elongated slot appearance. However, M-LOK is larger, has squared sides and flat ends (as opposed to MOE’s pill-shaped slot) and different dimensions. With direct mounting, the end user can mount accessories directly from the front face of the slot, rather than having to access the rear of the system. In addition, the M-LOK direct attachment system comes with a custom, cammed T-nut which positions the T-nut for easy installation and removal. The M-LOK is optimized for high volume metal and polymer manufacturing, and comes with lugs which prevent movement of the system under recoil and/or rough handling.
As the product information sheet points out, “all current Magpul items featuring the MOE slot system will be systematically converted to the M-LOK standard during 2014. Both MOE and M-LOK versions of accessories will be offered concurrently for at least 18 months before MOE accessories are phased out.”
By the fall of 2014, Magpul will begin shipping a complete line of M-LOK direct-attachment accessory items, including Picatinny rails, slot covers, foregrips, angled foregrips, sling mounts and various light mount options. See below for more information.
