The city of Melrose, Massachusetts is implementing a self-defense program aimed to give teens a safer future.
The Melrose Police Department and Melrose High School will launch a program called Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) Systems before the new year. RAD will offer a number of self-defense classes, taught by five Melrose police officers, to female seniors at Melrose High School.
Melrose Police Chief Mike Lyle said, “When a student takes this class, it gives them a better insight into their own personal safety when they go out into the world It gives them an opportunity to react in a setting, an environment where they’re uncomfortable and they feel threatened.”
Rape Aggression Defense will be completed in August.
