“I am very excited about joining the MPA team and know I can bring a lot to the DS Series Pistol line. MPA is in a great position to make a huge difference in the race gun market by providing consumers with a high-quality firearm at a very competitive price. Competitive shooting is a very strong passion of mine and I plan on helping to drive the MPA team forward with reliably built race guns that I would be confident to shoot.”

David Lyell

The New Product Manager’s Experience

For the past 12 years, Lyell has worked with a small arms manufacturer and has experience with CNC manufacturing applications. Custom pistol building is a passion of Lyell’s, who has built numerous race guns for himself and close friends. Having become the “go-to gunsmith” in his area, Lyell has experimented with quite a few different race gun setups. He has gained invaluable experience of what works and what doesn’t. He’s currently a USPSA Grandmaster in the Open Division. Prior to that, Lyell got his start in competitive shooting in the Production Division. He then moved to the Carry Optics Division where he received his Master classification. Other credits include becoming the 2020 South Carolina State Champion in Open Division. Additionally, he finished third-place overall at the Area 6 Championship in 2021. Lastly, he has numerous state-level accolades and trophies.

Competition Ready Pistols

MPA acquired the wide-body, double-stack 1911 pistol line from Freedom Gunworks at the end of 2019. The DS9 Hybrid Pistol was the first product introduction. The previous owner Bobby Keigans stayed on through the end of 2021. This was to ensure a smooth transition of the competition-ready pistols.

“We at MasterPiece Arms have built our reputation around our commitment to producing reliable, accurate products purposefully built to meet and exceed our customers’ needs. The impact we have seen our DS product line make upon the market in the 12-plus months since its initial introduction has been humbling. We have a lot of exciting changes happening with production, new personnel, and further product innovation, and we’re looking forward to showing our customers what we have in store for them this year.”
