According to miami.cbslocal.com, Stewart shot and killed a man armed with an AK-47 Monday morning. The gunman allegedly broke into Stewart’s van, attempting to rob Stewart, along with his 11-year-old son and girlfriend.

“The guy I killed last night, he put an AK-47 to my damn face,” Stewart said, according to miami.cbslocal.com. “I am from Kingston Town in Jamaica, and I am not going to go out like a punk. Donnovan claimed to be licensed, and also claimed to hold a concealed weapons permit. He credited training enabled him to act quickly, saving himself and his family.

“So I thought you are you going to kill me so now I have to act quickly because I am trained,” he said, according to miami.cbslocal.com. “You know I have a security license, I have a G license and I have a state firearms license and a concealed weapons permit and I have a gun and I am a member of the NRA.”

The G license could refer to a type of Florida security guard licensing system. If so, that license requires annual training and re-qualification. News reports neither confirmed nor denied Donnovan’s firearms credentials. Nevertheless, police said the incident appeared to be defensive, though the investigation remained open. In any event, Donnovan and his loved ones survived thanks to his action.

“You want to come looking for trouble,” he said. “Come to me. Come to me. I wouldn’t do anything like this to anybody and they picked the wrong person in this case.”
