A Missouri homeowner shot and killed a man during a home invasion over the weekend.
According to KY3, Rick Rogers, his girlfriend, Chelsea St. John, and their daughter-in-law were at home in Springfield early Saturday morning when 40-year-old Kenneth Fry and three other men broke into the home.
When the family realized the men were in the house, Rogers immediately went upstairs to get his gun. St. John followed him up the stairs, but Fry managed to get to her.
“He grabbed me by the back of my hair and pulled me back down and said ‘get on the floor, you know I will kill you.’ And I went to the kitchen and was going to get on the floor and he didn’t even wait for me to get on the floor he took upstairs after Rick and that’s when Rick shot him,” says St. John.
“I was able to get my gun first and shoot one of them,” Rogers said. “The other three heard my shot and left out the back door.”
“After Rick went chasing after the three that took off, I opened our door at the back and started hollering for somebody to call 911 to get some help,” St. John said.
The family’s ordeal continued on sunday afternoon, when St. John says she spotted two men walking near her house, one of whom she believes was involved in the home invasion.
“I told the police the look that passed between us wasn’t a look like ‘why are you looking at me. Whats up?’ The look was ‘yes, I know you and I know you know me and I will be back’ and that is scary to me, that is very scary,” says St. John.
She called the police and both men fled, but one was eventually caught. The investigation is ongoing.
Rogers, meanwhile, says he does not have any second thoughts about shooting Fry on saturday morning.
“No regrets,” he said. “I would do it again. If they do it again, I would do it again. You got to protect your family.”
