In case you haven’t noticed by now, police departments are really starting to like the SIG P320. The latest law enforcement agency to adopt the pistol as its official duty gun is the Montgomery Police Department in Alabama.

Montgomery Police Department Picks The SIG P320
The Montgomery Police Department has over 500 sworn officers in its ranks, all of whom are tasked with protecting the second-largest city in the state. The city is comprised of over 200,000 citizens. From now on, when MPD officers hit the streets in Montgomery, they’ll be protecting the citizenry with the SIG P320. Previously, the department had issued Glock pistols for its officers.
“We are honored that the Montgomery, Alabama Police Department has chosen the P320 as their official duty firearm for its full complement of officers,” said Tom Jankiewicz, SIG’s executive vice president for law enforcement sales, said in a press release. “The P320’s unique modular design and serialized trigger-group give the men and women of the Montgomery Police Department the ability to select frame and grip size for their official duty pistol according to personal preference. This is really an ideal feature for a large police force like Montgomery.”
Modularity
Modularity is the name of the game when it comes to the P320. Like the above quote states, the striker-fired gun comes with a serialized trigger group, which makes the gun adaptable to various caliber, size and grip options. In addition, the SIG P320 comes in full-size, carry, compact and subcompact sizing options, and is available in 9mm, .357 SIG, .40 S&W and .45 ACP. Meanwhile, a 3-point takedown means there’s no trigger pull required for disassembly.
“Sig Sauer‘s commitment to the law enforcement community is to provide them with superior firearms to protect and serve their communities – and the P320 exemplifies this commitment. We look forward to developing our partnership with the Montgomery Police Department and supporting their mission – to safeguard the life and property, preserve the peace, prevent and detect crime, enforce the law, and protect the rights of all citizens,” Jankiewicz added.
Popularity
We weren’t kidding when we said police departments like the P320. In the past few months alone, North Dakota’s Bismarck Police Department; the Tampa Police Department in Florida; Jacksonville PD in Arkansas; Texas Department of Public Safety; Chicago Police Department; and the Virginia State Police have all either adopted the P320 outright or added it to a list of approved duty guns.
Oh, the P320 is also the basis for the M17 and M18, the official sidearm of the U.S. Army, U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Air Force.
In other words, it’s SIG’s world, we’re just living in it.
