Mossberg just went big, by going little. The new Mossberg 590S series of 12-gauge pump guns come ready to accept mini-shells. The new take on the classic 590 now digests shells ranging from 1.75 to 3 inches, without any modification. That delivers serious magazine capacity for home defense and more.
Mossberg 590S Details
We got our first look at the new shotguns at the recent Athlon Outdoors Rendezvous in Idaho. We saw both full-length and bird’s head-gripped Shockwave variants. The range results were no doubt impressive.
The S designation brings a new take on the legendary 500. To accept mini-shells, the 590S features a redesigned elevator and bolt slide, combined with the addition of an energy-absorbing bumper. The system allows the user to load their choice of shotshell length and type, including 1.75-, 2.75- and 3-inch shells. Mix and match, or load it full of minis. Capacities increase up to nine rounds on the Shockwave, and a remarkable 12+1 in the 20-inch barreled long gun.
Of course, the Mossberg 500 needs no introduction here. All 590 shotguns come with non-binding twin action bars, steel-to-steel lock-up and an anti-jam elevator. The new 590S with the 20-inch barrel also includes AccuChoke. All guns feature a blue metal finish, sling swivel studs and a logo-engraved receiver.
