Four or five countries are considering purchasing the Boeing P-8A Poseidon long-range anti-submarine warfare, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft, according to Chris Raymond, Vice President of Business Development for Boeing Defense, Space & Security.
“These are down to a technical level, not a cursory what-is-it level,” Raymond said just before the Singapore air show. “They are doing analysis of range and coverage, how it would fit in their fleets, life-cycle costs.”
While Raymond didn’t name specific countries, he did confirm that two of them are in the Asia-Pacific region. The prospective buyers are not currently in possession of fixed-wing ASW (Anti-Submarine Warfare) aircraft.
“These are new requirements, not just replacements,” Raymond said.
