Ruger is expanding its Mark IV series of rimfire pistols with two new models: the Mark IV 22/45 Tactical and the Mark IV Competition. These latest additions bring the total number of Ruger Mark IV pistols — first launched at the end of last year — to nine. And the company says there’s more on the way.

The Mark IV 22/45 Tactical features a lightweight polymer grip frame with rubberized replaceable grip panels to simulate the feel and grip angle of the SR1911, the press release says. The 4.40″ barrel with a 1/2″-28 thread pattern is deal for adding a Silent SR or flash suppressor. This pistol also comes with fully adjustable sights and Picatinny rails on the top and bottom of the barreled receiver for mounting lights, lasers and other tactical accessories. MSRP: $529.

Meanwhile, the Mark IV Competition features a cold hammer-forged, 6.88″ slab-side bull barrel and hardwood laminate, thumb rest competition grips. The grip frame is CNC machined from one solid piece of stainless steel. Also included are fully adjustable target sights which are mounted on the barreled receiver for permanent sight-to-barrel alignment. This design offers more inherent accuracy than moving-slide designs, according to Ruger. This all stainless steel model weighs in at 45.8 ounces. MSRP: $749.

Both of these new models, like all the other Mark IV pistols, feature a simple, one-button takedown for easy field-stripping; ambidextrous manual safety and a redesigned bolt stop for more ergonomic operation. The magazines drop free upon release for faster reloads and a redesigned magazine disconnect safety prevents discharge when the magazine has been removed, the company says.
