Korth Super Sport: Nighthawk’s Red ULX Import Revolver Is a .357 Dream

We recently looked at the best revolvers of the year as a part our 2019 “Ballistic’s Best” issue. We had to keep the playing field relatively even, so the Korth Super Sport Red ULX revolver—being as incredible as it is—received an honorable mention. It’s simply too far out of the normal revolver league. Having said that, we still wanted to take a quick look at it. Check out the details below.

Korth Super Sport Details

Nighthawk Custom surprised the firearms industry when it started importing Korth revolvers. Based in Germany, Korth has been making high-quality firearms for almost 50 years. Through Nighthawk, Korth has increased its profile, and its revolvers can be found in many stores around the country. The company’s base revolver is the Mongoose, which is available in .357 Magnum with a 9mm conversion cylinder.

The new Super Sport Red ULX model we received for this evaluation is a lightweight version of the standard Super Sport specifically designed for Police Pistol Combat (PPC) competitors. It features a Lothar Walther cold-hammer-forged barrel with polygonal rifling for superb accuracy, and Korth skeletonized the 6061-T6 aluminum barrel shroud to reduce overall weight. Korth designed the railed sides of the shroud to aid in shooting from barricades.

The ULX also features a front sight that can be zeroed at four different settings. By dialing the front sight disk, the shooter can adjust the sights for different ranges. The large rear sight is fully adjustable, and Korth enlarged the cylinder latch for positive manipulations. The large Hal Swigget grips fit the hand well.

The Super Sport Red ULX shot like a dream with both .38 Special and 9mm loads. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to find a PPC competition shooter to give it a full workout. With an MSRP of $5,549, it is definitely an exotic animal for very discerning customers. That said, it is clearly at the top of the food chain when it comes to this class of handgun. Because it’s so specialized, we did not subject the Super Sport Red ULX to the standard rating criteria.
