The Missile Defense Agency — a research, development, and acquisition agency that operates within the umbrella of the Department of Defense — announced Wednesday that it added $750 million to their contract with defense contractor Northrop Grumman to provide information technology management of the U.S. Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS).
According to Reuters, the new contract pushes the overall potential value of the contract from $2.5 billion to $3.25 billion.
The Ballistic Missile Defense System is “an integrated, ‘layered’ architecture that provides multiple opportunities to destroy missiles and their warheads before they can reach their targets,” according to the official website of the Missile Defense Agency.
