Oakley SI Honors Military Aircraft History with American Heritage Collection

While I am not a history buff, I do like history and historical memorabilia. Especially when it comes to military history. Whether it’s MilSurp rifles and other historical weapons or military emblems and artwork, I love to look back on the world’s greatest military. Although they don’t all have a ballistic rating, the American Heritage Collection, from Oakley SI, brings the cool factor.

Oakley SI American Heritage Collection

The three-piece collection honors and recognizes the distinctive nose art from 1940s allied military aircraft. Each of the three models, the Gascan, Holbrook, and Drop Point, uniquely commemorate the rich history and individuality of these aircraft and their crew.

Not only used for a morale boost, the aircraft designs were also practical for identifying friend from foe. Not to mention, it gave each aircraft its own personality. Many saw the designs as good-luck charms, as well as reminders of personal lives, hobbies, characteristics, and much more. As such, it is folk art that offers a unique insight into the mindset of the aircrew and ground personnel.

Each pair of sunglasses feature Prizm Lens Technology and offer impact protection. According to the company, the lenses are designed and tested under extreme high mass and high-velocity circumstances. As a result, they ensure uncompromising protection across a wide range of demanding conditions.

However, it is important to note, with the exception of the Drop Point, they do not offer ballistic protection. But the Drop Point glasses do meet ANSI Z87.1 impact resistance standards and are safe for shooting sports.

“We’re excited to introduce the latest addition to our American Heritage collection paying tribute to the iconic aircraft art from the 1940s,” said Erick Poston, Senior Director of Oakley SI. “This method of self-expression allowed these men to showcase their individuality and give their planes a persona to not only keep them safe, but also give them some reminders of home.”

Editor’s Note:

As I have mentioned, these glasses do not have a ballistic rating (with the exception of the Drop Point). So, do not use them as protective eyewear while shooting. If you are looking for protective eyewear, I recommend the Drop Point model. Likewise, Oakley has a lot of other options to offer in that category. These glasses are just meant to be a reflection of some of the coolest military aircraft designs from a proud history.
