Police in the Philippines have received 171 new Glock 17 pistols.
According to the Manila Standard, the firearms were given to the Pangasinan Provincial Police Office on Monday after President Benigno Aquino III gave his last State of the Nation Address, promising to give every police officer a service firearm.
“This is the third batch of the distribution of Glocks, as promised by the President,” information officer Ryan Manongdo said when the Glocks were given to police officers in active duty. “It adds confidence and boosts the morale of our people to serve the community better.”
The first batch consisted of 399 Glocks, while the second contained 155 Glocks.
As the Manila Standard reports, 2,186 firearms have been distributed to provincial police thus far. The LEOs will keep the service firearm permanently unless surrendered for cause or upon retirement from the police force.
