Police Combat Life Saver Course Taught in CT

As part of the Police Combat Life Saver course put on by the West Hartford Police Department’s Tactical and Protective Medicine Branch (TPMB), members of police departments around Connecticut learned how to provide medical care to themselves, other officers and victims of critical incidents such as bombings and active shooter situations.

The two-day course for law enforcement and armed forces members is led by Lt. Chris Thompson, a 23-year veteran of the U.S. Navy SEALS, and medical director Dr. Richard Kamin, who is medical director for the TPMB, Connecticut State Police Emergency Services Unit and North Central Emergency Services Team.

Through classroom instruction and simulations of “real-world” scenarios, techniques are shared based on battle-proven practices developed by the military and known as Tactical Combat Casualty Care, or TCCC.
