A pregnant mother shot an intruder during an attempted break-in at her Alabama home late last week.
WVTM reports that Marquita Turner was at her home on Ethel Avenue in Birmingham last Friday morning at around 2:20 a.m. when she was awoken by the sound of somebody removing her air conditioner window unit to get inside.

“I grabbed my gun when I woke up. And I walked out of the door and I saw them, the guy in the hallway … he was kind of close to me so I shot and he fell. And from that point, I went and turned on the lights and I called the police,” Turner said.
Turner, who is five months pregnant, says she shot two or three times, hitting the suspect once. Police arrived and the intruder was transported to UAB Hospital to be treated. He is expected to make a full recovery.
Turner told WVTM this is the third time somebody has tried to break into her home since she moved in seven months ago. She’s glad she had her pistol, which she bought two years ago, to defend herself and her unborn child.

“You have to protect yourself. Without a doubt. Take matters into your own hands. Get some type of protection. Don’t take anything for granted. You got to protect you and your child. Be strong. If it comes down to that, then that’s what you have to do. Don’t be scared,” Turner said.
