Raytheon Wins $156M SM-3 Missile Contract

Defense contractor Raytheon has been awarded a $156 million contract to provide the Missile Defense Agency — a research, development, and acquisition agency that operates under Department of Defense — with Standard Missile-3 Block IB guided missiles. Work on the contract will be performed in Tucson, Ariz., and Huntsville, Ala., through September 2016.

The Standard Missile-3 Block IB guided missile is capable of destroying short, medium and intermediate-range ballistic missile threats by colliding with them in space. Over 155 SM-3s have been delivered to the United States and Japan thus far.

Work on the contract will be performed in Tucson, Ariz., and Huntsville, Ala., through September 2016.
